What to Expect

Phone consultation (20 minutes)

During this initial consult, we will discuss what is going on for you and what led you to seek therapy or to seek my services. Then, I will share a bit with you about how I work and what we can do together.

From here, if we both think this is a good fit, we can schedule our first session.

First session (1 hour)

You will come to the SonderMind office and sign yourself in with our iPad receptionist. I will come to the front to receive you.

We will spend our first 10-20 minutes completing an intake form that will help us understand your current situation, your goals and aspirations for therapy, and a little bit of your history.

The remaining time will be used to explore what feels most alive for you.

Ongoing Sessions (1 hour)

Change happens over time. The way to take full advantage of therapy is to come regularly and to be committed to this work.

Our sessions will have different aspects – some coaching, some education about the brain and nervous system, and an ongoing exploration of your thoughts and feelings. We will implement new behaviors, track them, and check on their effectiveness. We will watch for recurring themes and issues and identify limiting core beliefs that underlie your patterns.

We begin with a more pragmatic focus for the first few sessions, as you learn new tools and begin to get a sense of your direction. As you build this foundation, our work will deepen, and we will begin to uncover unresolved emotional experiences that shaped your core beliefs. Working through these, we will install new beliefs (i.e., I am lovable.)

Homework (optional; to be completed in-between sessions)

Homework is optional. Some clients prefer to be given concrete tasks that they can focus on in-between sessions. This helps clients bring what happens in sessions out into their lives, where integration happens.

Homework can look like: experimenting with new actions, implementing healthy behaviors, or reading excerpts from books that are relevant to your process.

This can help you “stay in the work” and bring continuity to the process.
